What's new in this release
New in 3.3.1
This version provides all the features and functionality of the previous 3.3 release under the Oracle banner, and will provide the basis for all future upgrades. It also offers the following new features.
- Faster searches: Search optimization provides faster free/busy lookup, and faster "Find" operations on both the IMAP4 server and calendar server.
- Oracle9iAS integration: CorporateTime Outlook Connector 3.3 adds official certification for the Oracle9iAS mail server (Oracle Email), and now supports the MIME type used by Oracle9iAS to represent voice mail messages.
New in 3.3
Platforms and certification
- New platform support: CorporateTime Outlook Connector 3.3 offers full support for Windows XP and Outlook 2002. Windows 95 is no longer supported.
- German and French language support: Users with a native German version of Outlook or the Microsoft Office XP Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) can take advantage of CorporateTime Outlook Connector's new German and French localization.
- New certified IMAP4 servers: CorporateTime Outlook Connector 3.3 adds support for Lotus Domino R5, Oracle IMAP4, Courier IMAP4 and Caldera Volution Messaging Server. In addition, the University of Washington IMAP server is no longer required to use
MBXformat.- New certified PDA conduit software: ActiveSync 3.5 is now supported.
Calendar features
- Wireless preferences: Users can now configure their preferences for wireless reminders and notifications directly through Outlook.
- Respond tentatively to multiple meeting requests: CorporateTime Outlook Connector 3.3 adds the ability to select multiple meeting requests in the Inbox and respond to them all as "Tentative".
- Reminder behaviour with multiple clients: When using multiple copies of CorporateTime Outlook Connector, reminders dismissed from one client will not reappear in others.
- Better LDAP integration: CorporateTime Outlook Connector is now able to provide users' calendar information even when Outlook is set to consult an external directory server for resolving user names and e-mail addresses.
Usability
- Ability to switch online/offline states: Users can now switch between online and offline states through a simple menu command (File | Work Offline and File | Work Online).
- Other new menu commands: For convenience and usability, CorporateTime Outlook Connector 3.3 includes new menu commands to compact offline folders (Tools | Compact | This folder and Tools | Compact | All Folders) and mark folders for offline use (Tools | Synchronize | Make This Folder Available Offline).
- Improved progress indicators: When opening and synchronizing large folders, CorporateTime Outlook Connector 3.3 now displays message counts in its progress indicators.
- More responsive UI: Improvements to CorporateTime Outlook Connector's refresh operations and folder navigation makes the user interface smoother and more responsive at all times.
Performance
- Faster information sharing: Significant performance enhancements have been made for opening other users' folders and viewing free/busy information.
- Time range for other users' folders: To increase performance, users can now specify a time range when opening other users' folders.
- Specify folders to refresh: Users can now specify which folders stored on the calendar server to update during idle refreshes. Only the Calendar folder is updated by default, but users can choose to include Tasks, Notes, Journal, etc.
- Slow network detection: CorporateTime Outlook Connector automatically detects the speed of its network, and offers the ability to disable operations that can place heavy loads on the network, such as automatic idle refreshes and offline synchronization.
- Other performance enhancements: Faster folder and message management, start-up times and attachment handling.
Security
- E-mail security: CorporateTime Outlook Connector now supports digitally signed and encrypted e-mail.
- Improved SSL and TLS support: More robust negotiation and fallback procedures are now used.
For a list of new features in the previous release, see the CorporateTime Outlook Connector 3.1 release notes.
Resolved limitations in this release
- Offline folders are no longer reloaded in their entirety when e-mail is added.
- All messages are now available offline in synchronized mail folders.
- Notifications sent during the processing of a call to the IMAP4 server are now handled correctly.
- Synchronization progress indicators no longer show unchanged folders.
- When a user sets up an appointment with no other attendees, users on remote nodes will now see the appointment time as "Busy." (#01363)
- Meeting requests for recurrences no longer reappear in the Inbox folder after being replied to.
- Forwarding Contacts using right-click menu options is now supported (sent as vCards).
- E-mail is now sent correctly when the Synchronization dialog pops up during composition.
.csvand.pstfiles can be imported using the Outlook Import utility.- Profiles can be upgraded by a different user than the original installer without first removing all previous MAPI profiles.
- Sending e-mail with SMTP servers that initialize sessions with multi-line responses.
- Advanced searches function correctly against Openwave InterMail and Email IMAP servers.
- Sending e-mail with stationery backgrounds in POP3 configurations. (#01316)
- More than 2 KB worth of entries can be stored in an Outlook Distribution List. (#01116)
- A Sync log error is no longer generated when the Advanced Search dialog is displayed. (#01053)
- When the Refresh this Folder command is used when viewing another user's Inbox, entries that have been accepted or declined using another calendar client will be removed from view immediately. (#00912)
- CorporateTime Outlook Connector allows a user to change the attributes of a single instance of a recurring meeting that they do not own. (#00904)
- iCal attachments are automatically sent to non-calendar users for recurring meetings or when a meeting is sent from another user's calendar. (#00897) (#00559)
- If you delete a folder using an older IMAP client, you will be unsubscribed automatically, and the folder will not still be visible using CorporateTime Outlook Connector. (#00561)
- Signed e-mail, Digital IDs and Certificates are now supported. (#00505)
- Non-calendar users will not receive e-mail meeting notifications even though meeting or resource conflicts may exist. (#00345)
For a list of resolved limitations in the previous release, see the CorporateTime Outlook Connector 3.1 release notes.
Limitations, caveats, and known problems with this release
- When using an IMAP4 server that does not support Simple Authentication and Security Level (SASL) encryption, such as Oracle9iAS, it is recommended that you enforce Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for all connections to your IMAP4 server to avoid sending passwords in clear text. Consult your e-mail server documentation for more information.
For details on setting up a CorporateTime Outlook Connector IMAP4 connection with SSL, see the CorporateTime Outlook Connector online help.- Outlook XP only: When a user right-clicks on an item in the Calendar folder or Inbox representing an instance of a recurring event owned by another user, the menu items in the pop-up menu will be doubled. (#01290)
- The error message displayed when a user attempts to modify and save an instance of a recurring meeting owned by another user should state that access to the instance is denied, as is the case with non-recurring meetings, rather than reporting an OLE warning. (#01634)
- If you modify the series of a recurring meeting while working offline, any modifications you make to individual instances of that meeting before reconnecting to the server will not be saved. (#01567)
- Forwarding a message with an image file attached may cause the attachment to be duplicated in the forward. (#01479)
- Stationery backgrounds can cause problems when using Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) encryption. (#01400, 01401)
- Reading an incoming e-mail that is moved concurrently to another folder by an Inbox rule may result in the message being duplicated in the destination folder. (#00748)
- Outlook 2002 only: CorporateTime Outlook Connector only supports the default Send/Receive Group.
- Outlook 2000 on Windows 98 only: When working in another user's Calendar folder, you may not create a new meeting by simply highlighting a time and typing directly in the cells. Suggested workaround: double-click and enter the new meeting information in the dialog box. (#01123)
- Resetting your
.ostfile may cause you to lose folder context information such as your client-side Inbox rules. After resetting your.ostfile, verify that your folder rules are intact by opening your Inbox and selecting Tools | Rules Wizard. In the Apply rules in the following order box, verify your folder rules. To modify your rules, click Modify and follow the instructions.- All attendees invited to a meeting are invited as Required, even if some were initially invited as Optional.
- Meetings that have been accepted or declined while working offline using the Respond to all by Accepting command will not change colour to reflect Busy status. To work around this problem, connect to the server and upload your offline changes. (#00917)
- CorporateTime Outlook Connector does not support the Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) in e-mail messages, or
WINMAIL.DATattachments sent by Microsoft e-mail clients.- Using a CorporateTime native client to modify a recurring meeting created in Outlook with CorporateTime Outlook Connector will result in errors with the recurrence rule. (#00395)
- To specify a person using the Outlook Rules Wizard, you must provide both the calendar user name and e-mail address in order to have the rules apply to both calendar and mail items. Names and e-mail addresses must be separated with semi-colons (#00520)
- Folder names are case-insensitive. (#00321)
- If an open message is moved immediately after replying, a copy of that message will remain in its original location. To work around this problem, close the e-mail message before moving it. (#00266)
- CorporateTime Outlook Connector does not support the creation of monthly recurring meetings on the 29th or 30th day of the month. (#00257)
- Recurring All-day Events cannot be changed to single All-day Events if the change causes resource or scheduling conflicts, and vice-versa. To work around this problem, delete the recurring All-day Event, then create the single All-day Event. (#00265, 00271)
- Public folders cannot be made available for offline use. To work offline with the contents of a public folder, you must copy the contents of a public folder to a private folder, and then enable the private folder for offline use. (#00322)
- Birthdays and anniversaries cannot be added to a contact while working offline. To work around this problem, add the birthday or anniversary to your contact while working online. (#00309)
- CorporateTime Outlook Connector does not recognize Macintosh attachments containing a resource fork. (#00248)
- Custom folder views using the Group By option are not supported. Suggested workaround: Set the Group By field to none. (#00299)
- To avoid IMAP4 and POP3 protocol conflicts, do not set up the Microsoft Exchange service provider and CorporateTime Outlook Connector in the same profile if they are configured to connect to the same e-mail server.
