What's new in this release
Wireless Data Server 2.1 offers a variety of new commands and functionality, as well as extended platform support. See the Wireless Data Server Administrator's Guide and User's Guide for more details.
Extended platform support
Wireless Data Server now supports Solaris 2.6, HP-UX 10.20, Windows 2000, and Windows NT with all service packs.
Multiple language support
With Wireless Data Server 2.1, users can receive wireless reminders and notifications in their language of choice. Any language with a single-byte character set can be supported.
Accepting and declining meetings
When users receive SMS notification of a new meeting, they can confirm or decline that meeting by editing the message and returning it to Wireless Data Server. For more details, see the documentation concerning the
wds.iniparameter[WDS] confirmcaleventin the Wireless Data Server Administrator's Guide, Chapter 2.Hold notifications and reminders
Wireless Data Server now offers the ability to temporarily hold server-initiated notifications and reminders, releasing them on command (calendar server version 5.1 required). For more details, see the Wireless Data Server User's Guide (html | pdf)
Limitation, caveats, and known problems with this release
HP-UX file descriptors
Due to a limitation in the HP-UX 10.20 operating system, Wireless Data Server cannot set the maximum number of file descriptors. Ensure that this number is set to the maximum (at least 1024).
Solaris platforms and Nokia 7110
Due to a buffer size limitation on Solaris platforms, Wireless Data Server must run in text mode when used with the Data Circuit-terminating Equipment (DCE) plug-in. If you use a modem to connect to the wireless network, change the value of the
[<DCE>]smsmodeparameter in/etc/config/wds.inito1, and change the value of the[WDS]smsccharsetparameter toMSCP437. For more details on these parameters, consult Chapter 2 of the Wireless Data Server Administrator's Guide. The effect of this change is that users with Nokia 7110 phones will be unable to send calendar notes to Wireless Data Server. All plain-text messages will work correctly, and users with 7110 phones will receive all notifications and reminders correctly.
